According to the Los Angeles Times, in a televised address recently, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced his intention to end the colonial-era law banning sex between men, referred to as 377A. Lee stated that the change comes in response to the changes in opinions towards the LGBTQ+ community over recent years. According to LGBTQ Nation, in the context of the Don’t Say Gay law, the Sarasota County School district has instated a new policy requiring teachers to report to parents if a student comes out as LGBTQ+ to them. Additionally, in order to call a transgender student by their chosen name and use the correct pronouns, teachers must receive parental permission. Despite organizers saying the Paris 2024 Olympics will be the most open and inclusive yet, the games still have rules excluding transgender women from competing. Tony Estanguet, president of the organizing committee, stated that, “‘Games wide open’ has really been our motivation from the start,” in reference to increased LGBTQ+  inclusion. For years, Danny Robertshaw and Ron Danta worked to create a unique, professionally regulated rehabilitation center for rescue dogs. Danny and Ron’s Rescue cares for dogs rescued from puppy mills, shelters, hoarding cases, and other abusive situations. GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ+ media advocacy organization, recently came out with its annual Social Media Safety Index (SMSI). The report evaluates LGBTQ+ user safety across five of the most popular social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. All of those platforms scored under 50 out of 100 possible points.  The advisory committee was composed of high profile representatives from Stanford, Harvard Law School, and Media Matters, along with a Nobel Prize Laureate, Maria Ressa. In surveys conducted by Booking.com, LGBTQ+ travelers from all over the world shared their experiences. One of the major patterns seen was the amount of negative experiences individuals have had while abroad. Travelers from India, Denmark, Mexico, and the United States, among others, reported negative interactions in public spaces. Half of surveyed LGBTQ+ American travelers specifically reported discrimination abroad. Incidents included stereotyping, staring, laughter, and verbal abuse from other travelers and local residents as well. In the wake of a worldwide panic over the emergence of monkeypox, several companies are heading the charge in developing drugs to treat the illness. Among them, the South-Korea based company Hyundai Bioscience, which seeks FDA fast track processing for its drug, CP-COV03. The drug, an oral antiviral treatment for monkey-pox, contains a highly effective active ingredient called Niclosamide. According to The Washington Post, LGBTQ+ students in U.S. schools now face discriminatory restrictions on basic aspects of their educational experience. After Florida’s infamous “Don’t Say Gay” law, many states followed suit, establishing similar restrictions on classroom discussion of gender and/or sexuality.
